Tom Butcher grew up in Stamford, Lincolnshire. After completing his A-levels, Tom studied drama at the Manchester Polytechnic Theatre School. Early theatre work includes productions for The Royal Exchange and Contact theatres in Manchester and the Edinburgh festival. Tom’s first work in television was a guest role playing a police officer in Coronation Street.

He is well known for playing PC Steve Loxton in The Bill from 1990 to 1997, Dr Marc Elliott in Doctors, and Tim Gaskill in Casualty. He has guest starred in Holby City, Peak Practice, Heartbeat, Bugs, The Mrs Bradley Mysteries, and Dangerfield.

In 2001/02 he toured Australia playing the role of Cletius in “Lone Star.” Originally considered too handsome to play the role, his extraordinary acting skills and insight into social retardation and pocket pencil holders won him the role and the respect of the entire production team. He remains one of Russell Boulters favorite actors.

Butcher portrayed in a lead role Mike in the urban horror thriller Cherry Tree Lane.

He is married to ex Doctors actor Corrinne Wicks.
